Kaihuanvaara nature trail

The Kaihuanvaara Nature Trail is located 52.4 km from Rovaniemi toward Posio. It is an easily accessible day-trip destination in the Kaihuanvaara–Kivalot area. The tree-covered hills of the area are prominent elements in the Kemi River landscape. They offer beautiful views of the riverside and surrounding areas. Kaihuanvaara, or Kaihua Hill, offers the feel of wilderness, and the old hill-top forests are peaceful hiking destinations. Kaihuanvaara trails are the wilderness, hiking, and circular trail (cycling trail), and the Juhannuskallio scenery trail.

The nature trail passes through varying hillside forests and crosses small streams on duckboards. It takes you, for example, to the protected grove of Kaihuanvaara and beautiful hillside birch groves where you can hear wood warblers singing in early summer. The information boards of the nature trail talk about the area's nature and especially how nature is a source of health and a good mood. The trail was previously known as the Kaihuanvaara Mushroom Trail established by the Finnish Forest Research Institute. The one-way length of the trail is 3.8 km. It is linear and medium in difficulty.

There is an information point at the beginning of the nature trail and information boards along the trail. Siren’s Cabin, campfire site, woodshed and outhouse.

Directions: drive 2.6 km out of Rovaniemi along Sodankyläntie; turn right on Kuusamontie; drive 49.3 km to Vanttauskoski; drive along Pirttikoskentie for 6.3 km; turn left on Kaarnijärventie; drive 2.1 km; turn right on Kaihuanvaaran rengastie; drive 3.3 km to the parking area on your right.
